Many small business owners get stuck when it comes to choosing a copywriter that will increase the response and profits in their marketing.
How are you supposed to know who to select from all the options?
What’s questions should I ask?
How much is a fair price?
There’s really very little reliable info out there.
That’s why I’ve created a short series of Blogs to make sure you don’t waste your money and become the guinea pig for some amateur copywriter claiming to be the next David Ogilvy.
Proven Past Results
The first and most important thing you need to ask for is a proven track record. I’m not talking about a bunch of logo’s of companies that they’ve written for. I’m talking about facts and figures that can show…
- This was the conversion rate before hiring “Copywriter A”.
- And as you can see after “Copywriter A” updated our sales page conversions increase 20% or 100% or 257%.
Now to be fair a lot of clients may not be tracking conversions as they should, so there may not be a lot of case studies with specific figures that you can look at, but you need at least one or two to see that this copywriter knows how to sell.
After all that’s all you want.
You’re not looking for the next brilliant piece of literature. You want a results-focused copywriter who can craft a marketing message that will generate more sales and leads for your business.
Testimonials
Asking for recent, reliable testimonials is another way to make sure you’re dealing with a professional copywriter.
The ability to build trust and credibility through words is one of the major weapons of a good copywriter. Testimonials are a great way to do this and are used in most good forms of marketing.
So if a copywriter is not using testimonials that have a the first and last name, and company contact details of happy clients in their own copy, they either…
- Don’t have any testimonials from happy clients or
- Aren’t using them, which means they may not be the most experienced copywriter around.
Read Their Content
Is your copywriter a prolific writer?
Do they post regular Blogs and have a network that engages with their content?
If your writer cannot attract people to their own business with their copywriting, then it’s going to be impossible for them to help you attract more people to yours.
What about their website, does it build desire to buy from them or contact them for more information?
Do they have a streamlined sales funnel?
Hiring a copywriter with a good understanding of the wider marketing skills, including how to develop a profitable sales funnel is critical.
There are 4 more important things you should know before hiring a copywriter and I’ll be posting these over the next week or two, or you can get instant access to complete list Here.
